Multiplication

Students are required to know their multiplication tables up to 12.  We have been multiplying by 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by using place value.  Here's an example.  Have your child explain it to you and try some at home.  We also listened to some songs to help us with our multiplication.  Here are some...sing along...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzXcI49jdV0

   13  (10 + 3)
x 21   (20 + 1)
1 x 3 = 3
1 x 10 = 10
20 x 3 = 60
20 x 10 = 200
               273

197  (100 + 90 + 7)
x 68 (60 + 8)
8 x 7 = 56
8 x 90 = 720
8 x 100 = 800
60 x 7 = 420
60 x 90 = 5400
60 x 100 = 600

  1. Doesn't get much better than Schoolhouse Rock (yes, I'm dating myself). And it works. I still remember 'elementary, my dear, 2x8 is 16'. Looks like this is the full version for the times tables...
